From one organisation to another, the definition of Robot and the limits defining the field of Robotics vary. Syrobo is devoted to represent the interest of Personal and Services Robotics. Our organisation has decided to adopt a rather large acception on the definition of what a Robot is.
We consider to be a robot, any system which integrates sensors and servos, and function autonomously or semi-autonomoulsy in cooperation with human. Robotic researchers put forward the concepts of Intelligence and of the ability to adapt to imprevisible environments.
Three criteria usaully define a robot :
- Communication : Able to send and receive information or commands to a human or any other object through an integrated interface (screen, controls, vocal or visual recognition....) or via transmission (WiFi, GSM/GPRS/3G, Zigbee, Bluetooth…)
- Autonomy : Able to act without the intervention of a human. For instance: an object capable of autonomously get RSS and braodcast them.
- Mobility : Able to move parts of its "body" or to move within its environment autonomously.
